Taiko Classes for Youth

For all classes, please wear comfortable clothing, bring taiko sticks (available at first class meeting), earplugs, indoor footwear (optional), and a water bottle for your own consumption (optional).

Spring Session I:  January 12-February 21  (6 weeks)

Spring Session II:  February 23-April 11  (6 weeks)
Spring Session III:  April 18-May 27  (6 weeks)

Summer Taiko Intensives:  June  14-18 (1 week)

Family (Beginning) Taiko is for those parents & children; grandparents & grandkids; aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and/or cousins that would like to experience taiko together! Basic form, technique, practice pieces, and cultural customs associated with the art form are introduced. A great bonding experience!

Youth Beginning Taiko I

This course is geared for children ages 5-12. Basic form, technique, philosophy, practice pieces and cultural customs associated with the art form will be introduced. An adult must accompany the child during all class times. Enrollment limited.

Youth Beginning Taiko II
(ages 5-12)

Sundays 1:00-1:55pm
Open to youth who have successfully completed two or more sessions of Level I. Basics learned in Beginning Taiko I will be reinforced and expanded upon. Movement exercises in preparation for soloing will be introduced. An adult must accompany the child during all class times. Enrollment limited.

Youth Intermediate Taiko
(ages 5-17)

Tuesdays 5:00-5:55pm
This course is for children who have successfully completed Beginning Taiko II or those with a background in taiko. The class will cover basic form, exercises, movement, philosophy, centering, and balance. Practice pieces, bass pattern exercises, festival music and performance pieces will be introduced and developed. Enrollment limited.

Youth Performance Training
(ages 5-17)

Sundays 4:00-4:55pm

Open to youth who have successfully completed Intermediate Taiko or have a background in Taiko and interest, talent, and potential to become a performer.  Review of basic foundations of technique and form are on-going.  Emphasis is on developing ensemble drumming and performance skills. Instructor's permission required for enrollment.  Enrollment is limited.

This course is for youth who have successfully completed Youth Performance Training or have previous Taiko experience. Review of basic form, exercises, movement, philosophy, etc. is on-going. Class is geared to develop and polish ensemble drumming, technique, form and performance skills. Instructor's permission required for enrollment.
